Stan McKinney has published four books. Three are textbooks and one is a book of flower photos.
McKinney's first book was The World Ends at the County Line: A Guide to Writing Stories People Want and Need to Read. It was published in 2004.
This book details how to write "big" newspaper stories while
keeping the angle local. McKinney believes that people like to read about people and they prefer to
read about people who share their community. This book contains numerous
newspaper stories McKinney has written and discusses the who, what, when,
where, why, how and who cares for each. The book also discusses sources and
other details for each story.
McKinney's latest textbook is Beginning Photojournalism. The book includes a definition of photojournalism, a brief history of photojournalism, a guide to basic composition, definitions of various types of photographs, discussion of ethics and laws affecting photojournalists and examples of photographs he has taken over the last few years.
During the summer of 2008, McKinney published a book of flower photos. All of the flowers in the book were taken by him at his home in Campbellsville, Ky. He raises flowers of all kinds and also has a koi pond complete with a variety of water plants.
The book is titled Glory in the Flower.
