I now have access to a 50mm f1.4 lens. It is great. The lens is extremely shapr wide open even at 3200 ISO.
If you can afford one, buy it. Nikon is replacing the series D with a series G and the price is going up about $200.

I just read a couple of interesting articles about the 50mm f-1.4 Series D lens. The lens can be purchased for less than $300.
On my Nikon D300, because of the digital 1.5X magnification factor, it would become a 75mm f-1.4 lens. Wow!!
Wouldn't that be great for available light photography, especially basketball games.
Can I afford to add it to my photographic arsenal?
I'd love to. My students, especially those who take photos for the Campus Times, could certainly use it. The reviews all say it's a great lens and a bargain for less than $300.

On another note, several of my students just left on a bus for Washington, D.C. to watch Barrack Obama become president. They will be photographing the event for the Campus Times.
That's a great opportunity for them.
I'd like to be there too, but my arthritis wouldn't let me stand as long as necessary for the ceremony to begin.
I am looking forward to seeing the photos they get.
